THE EDITOR'S PREFACE. THE work which is here offered to the public has been received with distinguished favor by the German and French homceopathists. The first part of the work is a concise compendium of our Materia Medica pura, including all those symptoms which, although not contained among the pure provings, yet are known to yield to the action of the drugs to which they are attributed; and the second part is a repertory, which is complete without being unnecessarily diffuse. It will be perceived that the American publication purports to be a combination of Jahr's and Possart's Manuals. As may be seen from Possart's preface to his Manual, he published his work in the supposition that Jahr did not intend to publish another edition of his own Manual. In this, however, Possart was mistaken; and, inasmuch as the plan of both works is the same, and Possart has taken his materials from Jahr's large Symptomen-Codex, it has been deemed unnecessary to publish the two Manuals separately in this country; and I believe I have done all that was required by the interests of the American profession, by combining the two Manuals into one, and, taking Jahr's work for my
