CHLOROFORM. 479 CHLOROFORM. General Symptoms.-Sensation, on closing the eyes, as if the ground were wavering.-Sensation, when seated, as if the chair and table were moving in different directions.-Excessive languor of the joints, especially the tarsal joints.-One gets easily tired in any position where the muscles are strained. — Cracking of the joints, and weakness of the same during motion. Sleep. —A good deal of yawning, with closing of the eyes, even while walking. —Excessive yawning, as if the jaws would become dislocated, with continual chilliness, coldness of the extremities, and bruising pain in the joints of the arms and feet.-Drowsiness, with chilliness and coldness of the extremities. —He is overcome with sleep, accompanied by dimness of sight, buzzing in the ears, slow, deep breathing, and unequal pulse.-Frequent stretching and yawning.-Extremely agreeable sensation of drowsiness, with peace of mind. Fever. —Chilliness deep in the back, extending to the extremities.-A good deal of internal chilliness, with coldness of the skin.-Violent chilliness penetrating to the inmost parts of the spine, with coldness and paleness of the skin, trembling of the extremities, and blue nails.-Pulse 75, small, very irregular; quicker; soft, full, regular; very soft, sometimes intermittent; hard, 70 to 75, unequal; at one time very slow, afterwards several beats in rapid succession. Sentient Sphere and Head.-The head feels light, with a peculiar sensation of clearness. —The head feels heavy, confused; with vertiginous sensation as if it would fall forward, when sitting. -Heaviness of the head, with pain in the forehead.-Pressure or pressing in the temples.-Sensation of vertigo, which ascends from the spinal marrow to the occiput. -Pressure in various parts of the brain. —Heat and weight in the occiput. Eyes.-Eyes moist, full of tears.-Disposition to close the eyes.-The skin near the canthi looks very blue. — Vibrations before the eyes.-Obscuration of sight.-Large, black spots before the eyes.-A number of small gray spots and streaks hovering at the distance of a few inches from the eyes when looking at a distance; they follow the motions of the eye, and are seen before each eye separately.-Dark spots before the eyes, with bright spots when closing the eyes.-A number of bright spots, with disposition to close the eyes, and a good deal of yawning. —Dark points and bright streaks. —Objects appear more distinct, Ears. —Ringing in the ears; buzzing, also noise, as of
